We propose the new name Rhynchospora galeana to replace the illegitimate later homonym R. breviseta (Gale) Channell. Rhynchospora galeana is a member of section Plumosae. It grows in savannas and pinelands in the southeastern U.S.A. and the Greater Antilles.
