Publishing a proposal to conserve a scientific name was a new and fun experience. Working with Kanchi Gandhi, and Geoff Levin was an honor and I learned a tremendous amount. In this paper, we propose to conserve the well-established and universally used name J. acuminatus Michx. The issue is that J. acuminatus Balb. predates J. acuminatus Michx. and that is not allowed under the rules of Botanical Nomenclature. TAXON is the premiere nomenclatural journal where proposals like this are published. Ultimately, this proposal will be voted on at the International Botanical Congress in Madrid, Spain in 2024.
